8 Examples When The Film Industry Reused Costumes
There is an important and never-aging proverb that says that everything new is well-forgotten old. Unfortunately or fortunately, we completely agree with it, and as an example, we would like to consider the attire of various characters in the film industry, who flashed in the frame in at least two different films.
Sometimes we watch a movie and can’t figure out whether I’m a fool, or whether I saw the same outfit, but in a completely different movie. More often than not, we are actually right, and this practice does exist in Hollywood. None of the costumes are actually thrown away, but are sent to be stored in a warehouse, and are sometimes refined by costume designers and reappear on the screen if the outfit matches a given era. Of course, some details are added to such outfits, because it would be sacrilegious to use the same outfit, and many masters can not afford such mistakes.
In this article, we would like to consider several examples when a character’s clothing was given a second wind, and it reappeared on the TV screen.
1. Friends, 1994 – Edgar Allan Poe’s Murder Mystery Dinner Party, 2016
This is one of the funniest examples, because it has been almost two decades since Rachel appeared on screen in this cream-white wedding dress, but you can see for yourself the identical dress on the heroine of the film, released in 2016. Of course, we can be wrong, but this is not the case, and we are absolutely sure that this is exactly the same dress that was on the screens then. Could you imagine that this outfit will live for so long and regain a second wind? We, for example, are not.
2. Pride & Prejudice, 2005 — Sense and Sensibility, 2008
Okay, we understand that both works are based on Jane Austen novels, but seriously? Despite the fact that both dresses can be attributed to the same period, but the heroines differ radically, so the reuse looks, at least, strange. Yes, it may seem that we find fault, but in this case, in addition to the different images, the only difference is the wearing of a silk scarf on the hands of the heroine of the second film. And all. However, both movies are good enough to watch with your significant other or family, so we recommend it.
3. Manolete, 2008 — Brooklyn, 2015
This skirt was a little more lucky, because it took less than ten years before it was used again for a role in the film. Despite the fact that the two films are radically different from each other both in terms of plot and characters, this skirt, let’s be honest, looks great on both heroines and only a trained eye can notice the reuse. What do you think, which heroine of the skirt fit more?
4. Gossip Girl, 2010 — The Carrie Diaries, 2013
At the time, the series gossip Girl made a lot of noise on TV screens, which did not subside for a long time, but you can see with your own eyes that the jacket of a bright green color was used, at least, in both pictures. The only difference between the two outfits is that in the second case, a catchy brooch with the letter C was added to the jacket. However, both girls look just brilliant in it.
5. Dangerous Liaisons, 1988 — Hocus Pocus, 1993
The setting is a fundamental factor, and this is a prime example of how the same dress can look completely different. If in the first case you can see a dress that would match the Royal person at the ball, then in the second case, the dress looks like a great option for going to a party or as a costume for Halloween.
6. Titanic, 1997 — Tuck Everlasting, 2002
Lighting in the film plays one of the most important roles, and we can see it with our own eyes. However, this is an example that cannot be confused with anything else. Almost every person on earth who has a TV has seen the Titanic and the brilliant Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet in the main roles, which for many years have sunk into the soul of the audience. In the case of the first film, the heroine wears the coat unbuttoned, and in the second coat fully buttoned. But this collar is definitely not to be confused with any other.
7. My Cousin Rachel, 2017 — Victoria, 2017
This dress was a little more fortunate, because it had been sitting on the shelf for no more than a couple of months before it hit the movie screens again. Black dresses are always in fashion, especially when it comes to movies related to the middle ages, so it’s no wonder that this sophisticated dress has once again hit the screen.
8. The Duchess, 2008 — The Scandalous Lady W, 2015
It is an obvious example that any thing should be given a second wind. We can see the same dress on both characters, except for very small details, but we can tell you with complete confidence that it is the same dress. Speaking of this dress, it is worth noting that so meticulous work was carried out on it that it simply could not be reused. Both films are beautiful, as are the Actresses who played their main roles. If you are looking for a movie for the evening, we strongly recommend that you pay attention to these movies.
